Protocol Design and Performance Optimization of Wireless Mesh Networks
Scope:
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are becoming promising technologies for broadband wireless access
in the context of home networking, enterprise networking, or community networking, which have the
characteristics of dynamic self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance, high
scalability and reliable services. Despite recent advances, many research issues remain in the design of
all layers of the protocol stack of WMNs. Multi-channel, multi-radio and multi-antenna have brought new
challenges in the design of physical, MAC, and routing protocols. New application scenarios, such as
office, mobile service, real-time traffic and rural area, are urging researchers to address enhanced quality-
of-service (QoS) support and various security issues in the design of different protocol layers for WMNs.
In this special issue, we solicit original work in all areas of WMNs. In particular, we seek original work on
identifying new research and development challenges and developing new techniques and algorithms in
protocol design and performance optimization in WMNs. Specific topics include, but not limited to, the
following:
Routing and Network Protocols of WMNs
MAC Protocols of WMNs
Physical Layer Design of WMNs
Cross Layer Design of WMNs
Energy Saving and Power Control Protocols of WMNs
QoS Provisioning of WMNs
Security and Privacy Issues of WMNs
Resource Management of WMNs
Performance Evaluation and Modeling of WMNs
Multimedia over WMNs
Test-bed and Prototype Implementation of WMNs
